February INs and OUTs

If you are unfamiliar to the format of this type of update, there is a sort of tag out there where people list their favorite things of the month and their no-longer-favorites-because-they-were-so-2010 things of the month.

It's pretty simple and please feel free to do this yourself if you would like =)

I have always enjoyed taking pictures but lately it seems to have taken a much larger role in my life. Not that I am any sort of expert on ...well...anything! But I do enjoy that shutter click and it makes my day when I realize I actually took a picture worth saving.

Slouchy shirts
I have come to the realization that style is one thing but comfort is a much better prettier other thing. I much prefer finding a messy comfortable oversized shirt over any tight form fitting club shirt any day.

Oh believe me when I say I had my share of pouty, bratty, temperamental teenager moments. So since growing past that age I just cannot stand people who have not. High school style drama is stupid, even in sitcoms.

Low maintenance hair
All I do now is shampoo, condition, and comb. Simplicity is satisfying.

Cold weather
I'm not a fan, obviously I'm human (ha-ha! ophed!) most likely because I get cold very very easily. But I am ready for more sunshine and while I'm not the biggest fan of sticky sweaty nights, I just want a gorgey summery breeze with the warm sun beaming down. Geez, too much to ask for?

Ball point pens
This may be odd to most people but I can't stand ball point pens! They are difficult to write with, sketch with, and dance with. Me no likey.

I am a pack rat and I know it. Everything is memorable for me! I still have the price tag for those pants that I got a really good deal on...who does that?! It is difficult for me to let things go because either they hold some sort of sentimental value OR I feel guilty wasting. But alas, most of it is sitting here collecting dust anyway.

Vampire craze
I don't get it and I suppose I never will but maybe I'm just not hip like all the hipsters are... perhaps the next big thing will be some 17 year old kid with a big ego and a lesbian hair cut who makes annoying songs, ay?

Fun Factoid

I was trying to sum up my life in the past twenty-five years and here's what I came up with:

Exactly! How can you possibly sum up twenty-five years into one sentence?! Impossible and for that I am thankful. This contemplation makes me believe that my life has been interesting enough for me to lose track of all my favorite moments- funniest, saddest, happiest, stupidest, most embarrassing...

At the end of the day I just feel happy and that's enough.

Want a fun factoid of the day? If we aren't close close, you may not know that I actually share my birthday with my dad on Feb 21st, and then my mom's birthday is the day right after!

Another fun factoid, my parents have been married for about 27 years now? They actually went to elementary school together way back in the day... you know, when Godzilla tormented Japan and Edison invented the light bulb? Yes, all things happened at the same time.

Where are they? Can you see? Hehe, both look dorky.

They met years and years later during a reunion and here we are! Lovely story but what does it teach us?

That dumb boy flicking rubber bands at the back of your head may some day end up being your significant other! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Strips of happiness

I am so so so grateful for great friends and great family.

I cannot remember the last time I was this surprised or this happy. My cheeks got a great workout from laughing =)

Tomorrow (technically now but it's only 12am so I'm still considering this as Feb 20) is my dad and my birthday. Woot woot, age brings wisdom.

Here's what I learned:

It's okay not to be happy all the time but it is not okay not to try.

Friends are precious and time is limited. But great friendship outlasts all time frames.

Cherish every joke because forgetting them will be your greatest regret.

Friends can stem from all places. Elementary school, high school, college, work... But no matter where and when you meet them, just go meet them!

Sisters stick together. Also, they don't always smile in time for the picture.

Alex dreams weird.

Sometimes it's good to remember that anger only angers you and laughter only makes you laugh.

Also, James can be real creepy.

My life lessons go beyond these few sentences so I'll continue tomorrow but for now-

I love this guy.

Soo... remember how I was going to share our Lego project? Here we go.

We bought several small boxes of Legos with instructions and examples to follow. So we both took a few and followed the instructions to quickly create these:

But what fun is it to always follow instructions? We decided to use our noggins and creativity to create our own magic. First off is Jimmy's-

He created a little robot machine that had movable legs and rotatable joints. Pretty impressive.

Ok, now that you're done seeing something good, you can see something great. Here's my creation.

This is Martha- the mustache, palm tree handed, red skirt wearing, black shoulder-padded, odd white haired lady.

Later on I added wheels for feet so it would be easier to get around.

Obviously I won.

Lego WAR!

I won. No proof necessary.

Ok ok, pictures to come!

I actually did work!

I decided since this weekend would be dedicated to a certain smelly someone, I had better make my time worthwhile... Sooo I busted out the cutting mat, bristol board, xacto knife, and some glue and away we go!

Actually... concept models are not my strengths, no wait- concept diagrams are not my strengths but the model building is still a bit difficult. Well, I DID have a direction this time and here's what I came up with.

Ready for my BS answer? Ok, so the rectangular exterior represents the body's tough physical state. In a sense, they act almost as muscles moving. The interior represents the spirit or mental state where the form becomes softer and a bit more organic.

And since the sun was setting, I had to do the photo shoot outdoors. Guess what I found when I turned around!

Jimmy and my goal for our anniversary activity this year. I dare you to deny our awesomeness!

I'm such a Pro Lego player, I'm going to build my entire body and even create a super trendy outfit to go with it.

Actually... I never had Legos growing up so it will be fun to see what kind of mess I make.

Our 8th year anniversary is coming up! Excited to do something fun and different this year, more details when they come.

Happy Lunar New Years (belated)

My mom is famous amongst our friends and family for her gorgeous homemade new years cake. Don't let the picture fool you, the texture is gooey, the taste is delicious, and the festivities are fun.

I apologize for not having this post up earlier as I felt a bit ill yesterday, but yes yes we did go home for the new year! We drove the 26ish miles back home to enjoy a full dinner with Mom & Dad.

If you are unfamiliar with the Chinese culture, holidays like these have special meanings in everything. Twisting the tones of certain names could symbolize something new. For example, saying the word fish could be used in phrase signifying "A meaningful year."

Every single dish means something, every actions symbolizes something else, and everything is a tradition.

The house must be cleaned prior to the day, hair must not be washed for at least three days following, red envelopes are given to the young, and well wishes must be wished!

Hope you all had a great year previously and happy new year now!

Got a new toy.
