Happy Almost New Years!

Sigh, another year is upon us and what have we learned?

...

Well, I honestly don't know what you learned, but I do know what I've learned from 2009 so here it is!

What I've learned from 2009.
By Ophelia N.

What I've learned from 2009,
Are a lot of hidden strengths of mine.
I'm able to jump enormous heights,
I'm able to fight for my own rights,
I'm able to see through the smoke,
I'm able to laugh until till I choke,
I'm able to smile when times are gray,
I'm able to watch what I say,
I'm able to learn from every play,
I'm able to LIVE every day.

What I've learned from this year,
Is that there is little to fear.
Through life's challenges and pain,
Patient and calm you must remain.
Things may seem impossible for a bit,
It will take awhile for reality to hit.
Most of life's dilemmas are so small,
You may succeed or you may fall,
What's important is what you take away,
And let it grow with you day to day.
For there is a lesson at the end of every journey,
That is truth, take it from me.

Happy 2010! Everyone please be safe and have a lot of fun!

I stole it back from the Grinch

I honestly do not care how tacky Christmas decorations look when littered throughout the shops and streets in my city, I find the look genuinely festive. It's almost Christmas time and yet again I am unprepared with all the expected gifts, a bit tired from post-semester stress, and still bloated from those Thanksgiving meals.

Despite all that, I am so delighted that tis season has returned to bring joy and smiles to everyone's faces. This is the time of giving and receiving but the giving and receiving I am referring to is not in terms of physical gifts, I am actually referring to love. Yes, corny I know, but necessary to say!

In my youth, I looked forward to the month of twinkly lights that adorned the rooftops and lawns of every house except my own (we're the typical Asian family you know), the month of unexpected visitors who bring an array of Disney sing-a-long songs, and the month of large endless meals filled with a variety of meat, potatoes, and sushi? Every Christmas Day would be filled with tension of the prospect of opening one gift at 12am. Finally when the clock struck, we were allowed to choose one gift to open that night and though we all did follow that rule, we also followed that with pleas to open the rest of the gifts. None of them made it for Boxing Day...Boxing Day for us was really Clean Up Day. Now that I think of it, we suck.

In any case, as I've grown through the years (not much vertically) I have learned the true importance of Christmas and it does not involve gifts anymore. Truth is: Christmas = money! Just kidding, Christmas = appreciation for family and friends...really for anyone and everyone who has touched our lives. For my Christmas gift, I just want to wish everyone happiness and love and send out all my thanks for playing a role in my life. I truly appreciate everyone and hope you all have a beautiful holiday filled with happiness and comfort. Merry Christmas to all and to all a funtabulous night!
